The PRO Tour is back!

This is great news for gamers everywhere. The Pro Tour is back!  a prestigious event that all gamers aspire to compete in. With its return, we can expect to see some of the best players in the world battling it out for the top spot.

The new structure

The Premier Play system has been revamped, making it easier for players to compete and work their way up to the World Championship. The new system is broken down into four simple steps: 

  • Open Qualifiers
  • Challenger Cups
  • Regional Championships
  • World Championship.

The price Pool

There will be more than $2 million in prizes divided among the different events.

Regional Championship Qualifiers

Qualifiers will take place at the local game store level, where anybody can compete for a ticket to the Regional Championship. For these events, WPN locations will receive the following promos for the winners:

Regional Championships

There will be three Regional Championships per region, each one corresponding to one of the Pro Tours in that region. This events will be runned by the official Regionals organizers:

The Pro Tour

The Pro Tour will resume in 2022-2023 with three events, the first of which will take place in early 2023. Each event will have a price pool of $500,000 and an expected attendance of 300 players.

The structure for the Pro Tour will be the same as it was prior to the Magic Esports overhaul.

  • Three days
  • 16 rounds, cut to Top 8
  • Split format (Booster Draft + Constructed Format)
  • Pioneer for first Pro Tour of 2023, Standard, and Modern to follow

World Championship XXIX

The World Championship XXIX will be held in the second half of 2023 and will feature a $1 million prize pool. It will also be played on tabletop.

Approximately 128 players will participate in the event, classified from the following sources:

  • Four competitors from World Championship XXVIII.
  • ~10 per Pro Tour in 2022-2023.
  • 32 via Pro Tour’s AMP at the end of 2022-2023 season.
  • Anyone tied for 32 AMPs will be invited as well.
  • Magic Online and MTG Arena paths TBA.
  • 2 from each USA/EMEA/JP Regional Championships per cycle.
  • 1 from each other Regional Championship.
